outfitting their astronauts on the Gemini space missions with
Speedmaster watches attached to the outside of the space suits. On July
20, 1969 during the Apollo 11 mission, Buzz Aldrin wore an Omega
Speedmaster when he walked on the moon. The back of each watch comes
engraved with with these words: "Fight-qualified by NASA for all manned
space missions" and "The first watch worn on the moon."
The watch has a simple black dial with white luminescent hands,
lettering, and hour markers. A black tachymeter bezel surrounds the
dial. It features a chronograph function with the minute register at 3
o'clock, the hour register at 6 o'clock, and the continuous sub-seconds
hand at 9 o'clock.
This a large masculine watch, measuring 39.8 millimeters wide. The
classic design remains basically unchanged from the original 1957 model.
